Emmanuel Abebrese UVA Death:- University of Virginia (UVA) fourth-year medical student has died. He was a driven and industrious medical student renowned for his outstanding work ethic and fervour for healthcare.
Emmanuel Abebrese was announced dead today by the MCW Department of Surgery on their Facebook page. He died on Sunday, October 7, 2024. Thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
“We are heartbroken to share the news of the passing of Dr. Emmanuel Abebrese, one of our general surgery residents, on Sunday, October 7, 2024. He will be deeply missed and will always be part of our MCW family,” a statement from the MCW Department of Surgery.
About Emmanuel Abebrese
Emmanuel, a 4th-year medical student at UVA, moved from Ghana to the United States of America in 2008 to study. He studied biochemistry with a minor in poverty studies at Washington & Lee University after graduating from Northern Virginia high school. Before medical school, he earned a Master’s in Commerce in Marketing and Management from UVA’s McIntire School.
He worked, served, and studied in Thailand, India, the UAE, South Africa, Canada, and Ghana. Surgery, telehealth, healthcare affordability, and business were his passions. Emmanuel formed two 501(c)(3) non-profits and one LLC and served on two non-profit boards, inspired by his parents’ Christian missionary activity.
Emmanuel joined the Medical College of Wisconsin’s surgery residency in July 2020. He became a paediatric surgery researcher after three clinical years. Emmanuel championed surgical education and healthcare disparities in Ghana and cities. He was dedicated to healthcare advancement and service.
