Lee Mauras Hempstead NY Death, Former Freeport wrestler died in shooting in downtown Portland – GoFundMe

Lee Mauras, a native of Hempstead, New York, and Clackamas Community College student-athlete has tragically passed away. He was 22 years old at the time of his death. He was confirmed dead through a social media post that read “Very sad news of former Freeport wrestler Lee Mauras passing. The Long Island wrestling community mourns his loss and our sincere condolences are with his dad Sergio Alex Mauras and family.”

Lee Mauras cause of death

Lee was identified by authorities as the man who was shot and murdered early on Sunday morning in downtown Portland near Dante. Portland Police Bureau (PPB) on Tuesday said Lee A. Mauras, age 22, was shot in the head and died of gunshot wounds. Officers assigned to the Entertainment District Detail heard gunfire in the vicinity of West Burnside and Southwest 3rd Avenue around 2:41 a.m. on Sunday, October 6. There was a dead man in a parking lot close to Dante’s when police and emergency personnel arrived.

Who was Lee Mauras?

Lee Mauras was a loving father and beloved friend. He was passionate about wrestling and he was someone who lit up every room he entered. Lee moved to Portland, Oregon on August 1st, 2024, to start his new journey as a Clackamas Cougar. The program and the community at the college accepted Lee. He had the desire and the direction he wanted for himself as a student-athlete.

He was so easy to be attached to and well respected by everybody over at the college. His new family here at Clackamas Community College loved him. Lee loved and cherished his little son LJ. LJ whom he loved wholeheartedly. Lee wrestled at Hempstead High School in Hempstead, New York. In high school, Lee was a 3x New York state place winner. Lee is also on the Puerto Rico National Team and ranked 68th in the World in Greco. Lee attended Iowa Central for the 2024 season.

Fundraising for Lee Mauras family

Funds raised will be used to cover legal fees as we fight for justice in Lee’s name, provide travel and accommodation support for his family as they make their way to and from Oregon for the court proceedings, and ensure that Lee’s voice is heard in the fight for justice, and that his family can be present every step of the way.

His family deserves to be there to honor him and demand accountability for his senseless death, but they are facing immense financial strain as they prepare for the legal battle ahead.
