Huels Oil Company employee Kevin Kampwerth of Carlyle, Illinois has sadly passed away. He died on Sunday 6th October 2024 after a tragic accident a the age of 64. He was confirmed dead through a Facebook post that reads “Huels Oil Company gives our deepest sympathy to the family of our beloved Kevin Kampwerth. Kevin was our first official employee, being hired 8/1/1981.”
Kevin Kampwerth, born on June 18, 1960, in Breese, Illinois, was a remarkable individual whose life was defined by unwavering dedication to his community and profession. The son of Roland and Rose Mary Kampwerth, Kevin made a lasting impact in various roles throughout his 63 years, leaving behind a legacy that will be cherished by many. His career began when he became the first official employee of Huels Oil Company.
His commitment to the company spanned an impressive 43 years, during which he became an integral part of the Huels family. Colleagues often remarked on his pride in the work he did and the relationships he built along the way. Kevin’s journey with Huels Oil exemplified his loyalty and work ethic, as he navigated the company’s growth and evolution over the decades.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Kevin was deeply involved in his community. His leadership extended to the Clinton County Electric Cooperative Board, where he served as a trustee for 26 years, and later as Chairman. His dedication was recognized on a broader scale when he was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives, where he was recently elected treasurer.
Kevin’s contributions to local events were equally noteworthy. As a long-time member of the Clinton County Fair Board, he devoted 29 years to enhancing the annual fair experience, culminating in his election as President in 2005 and 2017. His passion and leadership helped to elevate the fair, ensuring it remained a cherished tradition in the community.
In addition to his professional and civic commitments, Kevin was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. His involvement included organizing bingo nights and volunteering for Sunday breakfasts, where he was known for scrambling thousands of eggs. This spirit of service exemplified his belief in giving back and supporting community fellowship.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rose Mary Kampwerth and his in-laws, Harvey and Mabel Holland. He is survived by his treasured wife, LuAlice Kampwerth, cherished daughter, Whitney Kampwerth Luebbers and his “favorite son-in-law” and best friend, John Luebbers. He is also survived by his father, Roland Kampwerth, his sister Donna (Kenny) Henrichs, and his brothers, Mark (Joyce) Kampwerth, Dale (Cindy) Kampwerth, Roland Kampwerth, Jr., Dean (Lisa) Kampwerth, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and extended family.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1171 Jefferson St. in Carlyle with Fr. George Mauck and Fr. Jose Jacob, officiating. Following the funeral Mass, a luncheon will be served at St. Mary’s Parish Center. Visitation will be held at Zieren Funeral Home, 1111 Clinton St. in Carlyle, on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, from 3:00 – 8:00 PM and on Thursday, October 10 from 8:00 – 10:30 AM.
