Kade Praine, a resident of Courtenay, British Columbia, and a HVAC apprentice in Nanaimo has passed away tragically leaving behind family, friends, and the entire community sad and devastated.

He was 17 years old at the time of his death just one week before his 18th birthday. Part of the statement from the family read “Our family is so broken, there are no words. We are grateful to all of you, our community, who are helping to hold us up as we navigate this unbearable, devastating loss.”

The circumstances surrounding Kade Praine cause of death has not been made public Meanwhile, according to statement released by the family, Kade lost his life in a workplace accident in Nanaimo where he was working as an HVAC apprentice.

The chairman of an Island trade association referred to Wednesday as a “dark day” for the industry, but the B.C. Coroners Service has confirmed that one person passed away. The incident occurred at a Nanaimo construction site on Wednesday afternoon, hours after another person died at a site on Bear Mountain.

According to Vancouver Island Construction Association CEO Rory Kulmala, the day was tough for the families of the workers who lost their lives, the teams that worked alongside them, and the employers who hired the workers.
