A 20-year-old man from Cicero, Jeffery Campos, has been charged with first-degree murder following a fatal shooting that occurred early Saturday morning in River North. The incident took place around 3:40 a.m. in the first block of West Hubbard Street, where Campos was engaged in a physical altercation with a 24-year-old man.
According to Chicago police, the confrontation escalated, leading to Campos allegedly shooting the victim during the fight. The unidentified 24-year-old was swiftly transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Police apprehended Campos just 12 minutes after the shooting, highlighting the swift response of law enforcement in the area. The case has drawn attention as it underscores ongoing concerns about violence in urban neighborhoods.
Campos is scheduled to appear in court on Monday to face the charges.
