Emma Brungardt Blue Rapids KS Death, Late Joseph Brungardt sister after tragic accident

Colby CC Rodeo student Emma Brungardt of Blue Rapids, Kansas has sadly passed away. On Saturday 5th October 2024, she died after a tragic accident at the age of 19 laving behind her beloved family who will forever miss her. The news of her death was known through a publication that reads “This is Emma Brungardt. She is from Blue Rapids Kansas and is majoring in equine management and production. Emma competes in goat tying, breakaway and team roping. Last night her along with 4 other team members and our work study were involved in a car accident.”

Emma Brungardt was born on August 10, 2005, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to her proud parents, Michael and Holly (Goeckel) Brungardt. From the earliest days of her life, Emma’s love for animals and her boundless spirit became her defining traits, growing stronger with each passing year.

Emma graduated from Valley Heights High School in 2023, where she was not only known for her academic achievements but also for her vivacious school spirit and love for rodeo. After high school, she pursued her passion for animals by attending Colby Community College in Colby, Kansas, where she majored in Equine Management and Production.

Faith was an important part of Emma’s life. She knew Christ and was a dedicated member of The Cowboy Country Church, led by Pastor J Marc Williams, near Wamego, Kansas. Her faith and community helped shape the generous and caring nature she displayed throughout her life. From a young age, Emma’s love for animals was evident. She began her journey by helping care for her family’s goats, chickens, and her beloved bottle calf, Clover.

It was through her involvement in 4-H that Emma’s dream of working with horses became a reality. Her passion for horses and equine care blossomed as she participated in her first Wild Horse Mustang Challenge in 2018. Emma proved herself a natural talent, going on to win Grand Champion in 2019 and 2021, while also competing in 2022. These experiences not only showcased her incredible skill in horse training but also ignited her love for the rodeo.

Emma is survived by her parents Michael and Holly Brungardt, Blue Rapids; partner, Wesley King; siblings, Elizabeth Grate (Laurence), Heather Mitchell (Joshua), William Moore, Sophie Simmet, and Anna Brungardt; grandparents, Timothy and Catherine Gastmann, Jerry Goeckel, Arthur and Frances Davenport, and Melvin Brungardt; and aunts, uncles and cousins. Emma is preceded in death by her brother Joseph Brungardt.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m., Friday, October 11, at Kinsley Mortuary in Marysville. The family will receive friends from 4-6 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 12 at the Blue Rapids school gymnasium at 509 Chestnut Street. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
