A community celebration turned tragic on Saturday night during the annual Harvest Homecoming festival when a shooting claimed the life of an 18-year-old and left two others wounded. The victim has been identified as Bryce Andrew Gerlach, a resident of Corydon, Indiana.
As festival-goers enjoyed the festivities, chaos erupted as multiple gunshots rang out. Authorities report that the two other victims, a 22-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman are currently hospitalized and recovering from their injuries. Preliminary investigations suggest that all three individuals were innocent bystanders caught in a crossfire that stemmed from a dispute between at least two groups.
According to New Albany Police Chief, the investigation is ongoing, and while police initially believed the gunfire originated from specific locations near the Scribner House and the Floyd County YMCA, they now suspect there may have been multiple shooters. Witnesses have indicated that shots may have also come from within the carnival area itself.
Bailey stated that police have received descriptions of the suspects, who are reported to be Black males in their late teens to early 20s. Following the shooting, these individuals fled the scene, prompting an extensive search by law enforcement.
